The latest list of 50 Michigan "Companies to Watch" from the Edward Lowe Foundation and Michigan Celebrates Small Business is out, and two mid-Michigan companies are on it.
Pinconning-based
Bay View Food Products and Clare's
Cops and Doughnuts Bakery are on the list as businesses to watch for success in 2011.
Bay View Food Products was listed with its subsidiary company Mr. Chips Inc. as a successful small business in Michigan. It makes pickle chips and pickle relish, and processes and makes other pickle products for its clients. This year, it expanded with the addition of a large warehouse
"Continuous innovation in our manufacturing processes has given us this reputation and improving current manufacturing processes is a daily focus," says Joe Janicke, Bay View and Mr. Chips president. Janicke's father founded the company in 1946.
Bay Future nominated the company for the award and has aided it in expanding. Qualifying companies must have from six to 99 full-time employees, and generate from $750,000 to $50 million in annual revenue or working capital from investors or grants.
Also named to the list was Clare's Cops and Doughnuts Bakery, which is run by the Clare City Police Department and was a revitalization of a century-old historic bakery. It's now expanding in products and online, and drawing visitors to downtown Clare.
The Michigan 50 Companies to Watch awards will be presented April 28 in Lansing.
