Two area professionals earn certification as senior professionals in human resources

It's one thing to have a great-looking resume, and it's another thing entirely to have it backed up with real-world experience and proven high standards.

The latter is what two local human resources professionals are accomplishing with their recent national certifications.

Cynthia Bala, associate director of human resources at Saginaw Valley State University, and Julie Fulk, human resources coordinator at CME America Mitsuba in Mt. Pleasant, both recently earned certifications as Senior Professional in Human Resources, which are awarded by the HR Certification Institute.

It's given to candidates who pass a thorough examination demonstrating their mastery of the human resources field, and focuses on having a strong practical experience to draw on as well as theoretical or technical knowledge.

"Certification as a human resource professional clearly demonstrates a commitment to personal excellence and to the human resource profession," says Mary Power, executive director of the HR Certification Institute.

The institute is the credentialing organization for human resources professionals and establishes professional standards for the field, in cooperation with the Society of Human Resource Management, which offers the opportunity to take the examination through Saginaw Valley State University locally.
