CMU, Delta College sign reverse transfer agreement

Reverse transfer agreements are becoming more and more common among Michigan universities and community colleges, allowing students to have more flexibility in their educations, and improving retention and graduation rates.

The latest pair to sign such a partnership are Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant and Delta College near Bay City. The agreement allows community college students with at least 24 credits to move over to CMU and finish their remaining hours there, yet still obtain an associate's degree from Delta. The credits at CMU can count toward both the associate's and a future bachelor's degree from CMU.

"CMU and Delta College are partners committed to student success," says CMU President George E. Ross. "The reverse transfer agreement provides the opportunity for each of these institutions to help increase the number of people with degrees in Michigan."

CMU is working to make the transition from Delta College easy for students, and will notify students about the reverse credit transfer. When students reach 60 credits, Delta College will then review their CMU transcripts to confirm they have completed requirements for an associate's degree.

"We are excited about this partnership with CMU and the benefits of it for students," says Delta College President Jean Goodnow. "Students who transfer short of receiving their associate degree can receive that valuable credential by using credits earned at CMU to qualify."
