There are plenty of things that community colleges across Michigan can say that they do as well as
Delta College--private fundraising is not one of them.
According to the annual Voluntary Support of Education survey that is conducted by the
Council for Aid to Education, Delta College placed first in its private fundraising efforts among Michigan's community colleges that participated in the survey.
The survey indicated that charitable contributions to colleges and universities across the entire country saw an upswing this year, increasing by 0.5 percent in 2010 and reaching a whopping $28 billion. Charitable giving, as a whole, declined this past year by 0.6 percent.
Delta College saw a massive jump in contributions, climbing nearly 41 percent in 2010 as compared to 2009. Last year, the college reported raising $2,607, 962 from the private sector, and increase from $1,852,622 the year before.
"We are grateful for the continued support that we receive from individuals, corporations and foundations," says Dr. Jean Goodnow, Delta College President. "Delta depends on the generous gifts of our friends, patrons and alumni to ensure the margin of excellence we enjoy. These dollars help to provide the best possible education for our students."
Delta College has been in business for more than 50 years and has 61 percent of its 50,000 alumni living in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
