Dow AgroSciences named one of best places to work in life sciences industry

Dow AgroSciences is big business, and big agriculture, but it's also a pretty good place to work, according to The Scientist magazine.

The magazine ranked companies in several categories in its ninth annual "Best Places to Work in Industry" survey. Dow AgroSciences made it to No. 3 on the Top 10 Large Companies list, which appears in the magazine's May issue.

The survey results came from readers of The Scientist who work at life sciences companies across the world. They assessed workplaces based on job satisfaction, benefits, training, and integrity, among other criteria.

Dan Kittle, VP of research and development for Dow AgroSciences, says that's because of the company's culture of innovation, which draws scientists.

"We attract scientists from around the globe who bring a variety of skills, talents and backgrounds to an environment that values diversity and community engagement," says Kittle. "This unique culture creates and supports a passion for providing solutions to global challenges that is fueling scientific advancement and providing our customers with the solutions they need to feed a growing population."

Dow AgroSciences, LLC is a subsidiary of Dow Chemical, and is based in Indianapolis; it focuses on agrochemical and biotechnology applications. Part of the work that The Scientist attributed to the ranking was its recent award for New Product of the Year from Ag Professional Magazine and AgriMarketing, which was given for Dow's SmartStax hybrid corn seeds.

The top-ranked company on the list was DuPont, and No. 2 was Pioneer Hi-Bred, a subsidiary of DuPont. Rounding out the top five places were Monsanto and Amgen.
