SSOE Group just celebrated the five-year anniversary of the opening of its Midland office. It's been a history of growth in Midland for the international engineering firm since 2006.
The group, which also does procurement and construction management, opened the Midland office in early 2006 for the opportunities with chemical companies regionally, and had a beginning staff of three people. But later that year, the office had grown to 18 staffers, and an expansion was already needed.
The next year, SSOE upgraded to a much bigger office, but projects and resources continued to pile up, and expanded again in 2007. Today, the group employs more than 40 people at its Midland office, and has broadened its client range across the U.S. and China.
Scott Walker, CEO of economic development organization Midland Tomorrow, says the firm has grown thanks to demand for its expertise and the natural fit with other industry in Midland.
"Midland has a significant base of expertise in the chemical and advanced manufacturing industries, and SSOE has the resources and connections to tap that talent and use it to assist companies throughout the world," says Walker. "At the same time, their proficiency in engineering and construction management is a critical asset for Midland's manufacturing companies, and it helps Midland Tomorrow's business attraction efforts to have such a valuable industry resource here. The SSOE story has been a win all around for our manufacturing economy."
SSOE's headquarters are in Toledo, Ohio, and the company itself marks its 63rd anniversary this year.
