A Midland specialty construction company has completed a major project in Joplin, Missouri.
Johnson Portables reported the completion of a 31,000-square-foot portable health care facility in Joplin, which was hard-hit by tornados last spring. The facility was ordered from the building manufacturer in June and became fully functional by November.
The first 10,000 square feet for emergency and trauma care were finished in mid-August, and the entire facility was operational by early October. It now includes an emergency department, surgical support, entrances and waiting areas, cath lab, CT scan, dialysis and MRI areas, a pharmacy, a nuclear imaging lab, and patient care rooms, all meeting U.S. standards of care.
The temporary building will be used for up to a year, while the hospital, part of a regional health system, builds a new, permanent structure on site.
The company specializes in building portable, temporary construction in cases of emergency, disaster or even war, in locales all over the world. It also currently is building a sterilization facility in Galveston, Texas, in response to damages caused by Hurricane Ike, as well as projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Canada.
"Our MetaSpace facility is fully adaptable for unique scenarios and various global applications," says Brian Johnson, president of Johnson Portables.
