Midland ranked in top 10 in USA for places for technology manufacturers

When you discuss Midland, you likely don't include it in the same sentence as the cities of Tuscon and Albuquerque. Well, that is, unless you are discussing the best places in the country to located a technology manufacturing business.

According to Midland Tomorrow, an economic development corporation, Midland has landed itself on the top-10 list for major national sites for technology manufacturing to grow and prosper. The city was also third on the top-10 list for metro areas in the nation with the highest economic growth potential in an area under 200,000 residents.

The lists were compiled by Business Facilities Magazine.

On the economic growth list, Midland was named third behind first-place city Panama City, Fla. and second-place Manhattan, Kan. On the technology manufacturing list, it was Tuscon, Ariz. And Albuquerque, N.M. that took first and second, respectively.

"Over the last several years, Midland has become a hotbed for alternative energy manufacturing," says Scott Walker, chief executive officer of Midland Tomorrow. "We have a cohort of entrepreneurial businesses in all areas from the alternative energy projects of Midland Solar Applications and Fulcrum Composites to the energy generation and storage of Kinetic Wave Power, Advanced Battery Concepts and Point Hope Energy. Midland also has a host of growing, second-stage clean technology and advanced manufacturing companies, such as AEGIS Environments, The Apothecary Shoppe Pharmacies, Ingenuity IEQ, Liquid Molding Systems, and the manufacturing efforts of Michigan Molecular Institute."

Midland is also the world headquarters of The Dow Chemical Company and Dow Corning Corporation, global chemical companies making significant inroads into alternative energy applications.
