MSHDA awards Midland County housing grant

Midland County will be one of five Michigan counties getting grant funding for home repair and rehabilitation.

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority announced it will hand out $1.175 million from the Housing Resource Fund in total, $225,000 of which will go to Midland County.

The county will use the money to rehabilitate six owner-occupied homes and make emergency repairs to three others, just in time for winter weather.

Scott Woosley, executive director of the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, says funding like this can make a lasting difference in communities.

"Projects that stem from these grants have great potential to create a positive and sustained community impact," Woosley says. "As the physical condition of housing in each county improves, pride of ownership is restored and nearby homeowners feel empowered to improve their homes and businesses. All of this has a significant ripple effect on the area and its residents."

The other counties receiving funds are Roscommon, $175,000; Grand Traverse, $300,000; Dickinson, $175,000; and Ottawa, $300,000.
