The business community in Saginaw already knows what the
Michigan Economic Developers Association recognized this month: Saginaw Future's Steve Jonas has done a lot for the community and the region's growth.
The association presented Jonas, who is the executive vice president of
Saginaw Future, with its Medalist of the Year Award, at its 50th anniversary celebration and meeting in Traverse City.
It's the association's highest award, and goes to individual economic developers who have demonstrated commitment to community growth and achievement over his or her career.
Jonas doesn't lack in that department, having been in his current position for 17 years. Some of the notable achievements in that time include 430 companies assisted, 18,000 jobs created and retained, and $5.7 billion in new investment in the Saginaw area.
"Steve is an economic development professional recognized for his expertise and willingness to go the extra mile to help companies and communities," says Saginaw Future President JoAnn Crary. "His involvement in organizations from Michigan Works to the County's Brownfield Authority has made a marked difference on this community and the region."
Crary says Jonas is no less than an expert at navigating community development grants and revolving loan fund financing, and also shows dedication to Saginaw through participation in statewide economic development projects, traveling to other states and countries to recruit new businesses.
