A Midland construction company has been named as one of three in the state that is setting an example of eco-friendly business and building.
Three Rivers Corp. of Midland was named the third Michigan company to become a "Certified Green Contractor" by Associated Builders and Contractors.
"The Certified Green Contractor program is another step in Three Rivers Corp.'s commitment to build and operate in an environmentally sustainable manner while providing our customers with the best possible value," says Andy Weisbrodt, Three Rivers design build division manager and sustainability team head.
Associated Builders and Contractors is a national organization that represents the construction industry's interests to federal, state and local governments. Its National Green Building Committee names the recipients of the certification.
According to the committee, Three Rivers Corp. achieved the green certification because of its wide-spread development and implementation of environmental programs, including recycling, material conservation, energy conservation, employee well-being and employee education.
"This certification, coupled with our LEED project experience and eleven LEED Accredited Professionals, has established Three Rivers Corp. as a leader in the green building movement in the Great Lakes Bay Region," Weisbrodt says.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a green construction rating system from the U.S. Green Building Council.
