Insider Guide: Mike Ballor

Mike Ballor, a manager at Trans-Auto Glass Company, has lived in Oscoda his whole life. He loves the vibrant outdoor lifestyle that the area offers, from fishing in the river and the lake to hunting and riding four-wheelers in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter. “There’s all kinds of stuff to do here if you like the outdoors,” he says.

Which also includes golfing. Oscoda has some of the best golf courses around - Lakewood Shores Golf Resort, Red Hawk Golf Club, Tawas Creek Golf Club – a grand total of eight courses all within a 15-mile radius. There are also fishing tournaments on the big lake in the summer, and every fall the Paul Bunyan Festival celebrates the area’s logging heritage. There is also a big arts & crafts show on the beach in Oscoda, and another arts & crafts show in Harrisville (just north of Oscoda) that is also fun to check out.

Some of the everyday spots where people like to hang out are the Office Lounge, a casual bar with good pub grub and a relaxed atmosphere. Mike also admits to being a lover of pizza, so he recommends G’s Pizzeria & Deli (which also has a full bar).
