City Guide: Oscoda

Oscoda is located in northern Michigan and is fully surrounded by dense forests which made this a long-time lumberjacking community. With the Au Sable River running through it (which also offers plentiful opportunity for fishing and kayaking), Oscoda is also surrounded by the Huron National Forest and is part of the Au Sable State Forest. The Rifle River State Recreation Area is also nearby. Large glaciers helped shape this region, creating a unique regional ecosystem of large lakes, sandy cliffs, and hardwood forests. Its history as a lumber town is celebrated with the annual Paul Bunyan Festival and Lumbermen’s Monument.
