Midland nursery and outdoor center plans 5,000 sq. ft. expansion

Outdoor furniture made out of recycled milk jugs is their new business and business is good.

So good, in fact, that Maple Hill Nursery is doubling down on a couple of new product lines that have, upon their introduction, been met with immediate success.

The nursery, outdoor and garden center has been serving Midland for more than four decades, selling everything from Toro lawn mowers to Weber gas grills alongside their large collection of indoor and outdoor plants. The company even offers professional design, installation, and other landscaping services.

"We offer more high-end products. We’ve built our business on quality," says Chuck Servinski, who co-owns the family business with his parents.

"You could come here and eat off our floors, it’s so clean."

The success of a couple new product lines introduced roughly a year and a half ago has spurred the recent decision to expand Maple Hill. The Servinskis are planning a 5,000 sq. ft. addition to their Outdoor Living center, nearly doubling the size of the department.

The introduction and ensuing success of the Alfresco Home and Polywood outdoor furniture brands are a big reason for the expansion. Servinski promises an indoor showroom that will become a destination, one that feels like Florida all year round.

The Polywood brand is especially notable for its roots in sustainability. The easy-to-care-for outdoor furniture is made from recycled milk jugs--though you could never tell from looking at them.

"We try to keep it sustainable and local where we can, like carrying Dairy Doo compost from Clare. We try to be sustainable and carrying this furniture is probably the biggest thing that we’ve done yet," Servinski says.

"Some people might find it strange that you can take a milk jug and turn it into such a beautiful piece of furniture.

"It really makes people stop and wonder."

Maple Hill Nursery is located at 2672 N. Eastman Rd. in Midland.
