The
Midland Area Community Foundation is gearing up for its annual 24-hour Give Local Midland fundraising campaign on May 7.
Give Local Midland has been supporting local nonprofit edowment funds since 2014, and last year, they successfully raised over $45,000. This year's campaign hopes to surpass this record and raise even more for a good cause.
A day of growth and generosity
Give local helps the long-term sustainability of local nonprofit organizations by bolstering their endowment funds. Donations are deposited into the spendable portion of endowments, and the over $70,000 match pool is placed into the permanent portion of the funds.
Sharon Mortensen, President and CEO of the Midland Area Community Foundation, shares her excitement about the event's dual benefits, “Give Local Midland is an incredible way to build long-term community capital while assisting community organizations with current needs.”
The Midland Area Community Foundation has been serving the community since 1973 by helping residents maximize the impact of their charitable contributions. As a public charity, the foundation serves many individuals who share a common goal of enhancing Midland’s standard of living.
Engaging the community in friendly competition
During the event, 65 different nonprofits in the Midland area will take part by raising funds and increasing awareness of their inspiring work. They will also engage with the public while competing for additional prizes totaling $3,000. Contests are judged on many factors, such as time, creativity, and the number of donors involved.
“Give Local Midland is an engaging event where nonprofits can put their organization on display and engage in some fun, friendly competition as they compete for prizes,” says Mortensen. “Give Local Midland is a unique way for organizations to engage a new audience.”
Maximizing contributions
The Community Foundation and its Donor Advised Fundholders have established a matching program for donations. The total pool is over $70,000. Nonprofits will receive a percentage-based match on top of their contributions and prize winnings. This is an excellent opportunity for community members to increase their impact by contributing and seeing their generosity go further.
“As we focus on transformation in our community, Give Local Midland is an impactful event to assist nonprofits that help our community thrive," says Mortensen.
