Three other ways to spread the love in Midland this Valentine’s Day

Looking for other ways to spread the love this year over the traditional Valentine’s Day gifts? Whether you are single or not, there are plenty of ways to spread the love in and around Midland this Valentine's Day or any day of the year.

Penelope is a 4-year old Mountain Cur mix who loves to fetch and is available through HSOMC.

Human Society of Midland County

If you’re looking to provide a furry friend with a forever home, consider checking out the available animals at the Midland County Humane Society. They have several special animals that are on the hunt for their new family, like Buddy Sue, a two year old German Shephard who is house trained or Penelope, a four year old Mountain Cur mix who is also house trained and loves to play fetch.Buddy Sue is a 2-year old German Shepherd available for adoption from HSOMC.

If you’re not ready to take a friend home, many shelters are always looking for volunteers to help with dogs, giving them socializing time and exercise. Learn more by calling or stopping by your local animal shelter and check out adoptable pets at Humane Society of Midland County or Saginaw, Bay City and Gladwin County Animal Shelters.

Volunteer or visit a resident at an assisted living home

Sometimes elderly patients at assisted living homes do not get regular visitors due to not having family members left, or not having family around locally. Visiting someone in a facility who may not have family is a great way to brighten their day.

Contact a local facility and see if they have any seniors in need of friendship or conversation. Some local facilities in Midland include: Nottingham Place, Brookdale Assisted Living, Marshal Manor, Brittany Manor, Washington Woods, King’s Daughters Home, Bickford Cottage Assisted Living and Primrose Retirement Community.

Donate your home goods

If you’ve refreshed anything in your home recently or are looking to, there are a couple of organizations that can take your previous items off your hands and put them to good use. Home To Stay (previously Midland Area Homes) helps Midland County residents in need sustain stable housing through education, advocacy, support services and self-sufficiency. Home To Stay will take furniture and other home goods to provide to those in need.

You can also take your home items to Midland County Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Goods sell at deeply discounted prices and proceeds go towards supporting affiliate programs and missions for those in need of housing.
