Midland Public Schools recognized educators, administrators, and support staff for their outstanding contributions during the district’s 2025-26 Opening Session on Aug. 12.
“Our annual awards are a powerful reminder that the strength of Midland Public Schools lies in the people who serve our students every day,” says MPS Superintendent Penny Miller Nelson.
The annual awards, supported by the Esther and Carl Gerstacker Fund at the Midland Area Community Foundation, highlight staff members who go above and beyond in serving students, colleagues and the community.
Gerstacker Teacher Proficiency Awards
Two awards were presented to K-5 teachers and two to 6-12 teachers for contributions beyond the ordinary level of professional performance. This year’s recipients were:
- Mari Beth “Buffy” Hall, Woodcrest Elementary
- Shannon Pnacek, Adams Elementary
- Kim Sheldrake-Formsma, Northeast Middle School
- Sarah Pieratt, H.H. Dow High School

Distinguished Service Awards
This award honors support staff for their role in providing an excellent education. Recipients were:
- Barb Camp, Northeast Middle School
- Amy Gates, Carpenter Pre-Primary Center
- Michelle “Shelly” Rabadue, Central Park Elementary
- Jessica Studebaker, Administration Center, Elementary Curriculum Office
Administrators Inspiring Excellence Award
This award recognizes administrators who demonstrate exemplary leadership and commitment to the district’s vision. The 2025 honoree was Keith Seybert of Northeast Middle School.
“Each of this year’s honorees exemplifies excellence, enthusiasm, and commitment to our students, families, and colleagues," says Nelson.
