Midland’s summer favorites set to return with art, music and family fun

Downtown Midland is gearing up for a summer packed with art fairs and festivals, celebrating local creativity through fine arts, crafts, and music that bring the streets of Midland to life.

Summer Art Fair
The Summer Art Fair returns May 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Main Street between Jerome and Rodd streets. Presented rain or shine by the Midland Center for the Arts, the juried fair showcases fine arts and crafts from regional and national artists. Attendees can browse artist booths, sample food from local vendors, and enjoy live music from area bands.

Tunes by the Tridge
Tunes by the Tridge returns on June 5, offering free fun for the whole family. Set against the backdrop of Midland’s iconic Tridge, the concert series runs nine Thursday evenings throughout June, Jul,y and August, with performances from 7 to 9 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring quilts or lawn chairs. The series is presented by the City of Midland Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with local businesses and radio stations.

Movies on Main
Following the first Tunes by the Tridge concert on June 5, Movies on Main kicks off its summer season at Ace Hardware’s parking lot, 419 E. Main St., with an outdoor screening at 9 p.m. Families should bring lawn chairs and snacks; movie titles will be announced closer to the date.

Commons Live Music Series
Soul Xpress, a seven-piece funk and soul ensemble whose members have performed with the Commodores, KC and the Sunshine Band, and Rare Earth, launches the Commons Live Music Series on June 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the pedestrian plaza stage at Main and McDonald streets. Attendees can bring a chair or use outdoor tables and enjoy food and drinks from nearby downtown restaurants.
