Consort Display Group adds street flags to its lineup

It usually takes a bucket truck to change banners lining city streets. Consort Display Group is changing that with its new street flags.

Consort Display Group recently announced it is the North American manufacturer and distributor of a patented technology invented in New Zealand that allows flags to be mounted on light poles, as an alternative to street banners.

“By eliminating the need for a bucket truck to change out flags, it opens up all new possibilities for municipalities and businesses,” says Roger Lepley, President of Consort Display Group. “Messages can be changed out quickly, easily and more frequently allowing event organizers greater flexibility to promote more events within a city and significantly adding to the sense of the area’s vitality and activity.”

Using the flags can save municipalities, colleges and businesses thousands of dollars by allowing the flafs to be changed at ground level. The way it works is an aluminum track  is mounted vertically onto city or shopping center light poles, walls and other supports, the same type of poles street banners hang from.

The track is installed with the use of a bucket truck, then a flexible “PushPull” rod carrying the street flag is inserted into the track. It goes up to the final mounting height. Watch the flag being changed here.

At its Kalamazoo facility, Consort Display Group manufactures the rod and the top support bracket, invented by Nexus Developments Limited. Lepley says, "Now that we have the manufacturing process down we are ready to take orders.”

The flags are different from traditional banners, as well. They generally are made of a lightweight fabric, secured at the top and one side, and allowed to flutter on the other.

“We like that we can now offer our customers the option to choose between our traditional street banners and new street flags,” says Lepley.
