American Axle expects to grow to 1,300 employees

Manufacturing jobs continue to come back to the region. American Axle & Manufacturing recently announced it is investing more than $100 million in its Three Rivers operation.

New production lines, multiple assembly stations, paint line modifications, additional shipping and receiving capacity and upgrades to its offices and lobby will be made.

The investment is to be completed by the end of 2013 and is expected to create more than 500 new jobs, bringing the number of employees to an estimated 1,300. The Three Rivers operation is one of seven for American Axle in Michigan.

The company says it has been preparing for two years for this new business launch.  "Now, we are in a growth mode and hiring hundreds of associates," says American Axle & Manufacturing  President and Chief Executive Officer David C. Dauch.

The jobs will pay $10 an hour.

American Axle & Manufacturing is conducting a job fair in Kalamazoo for those seeking one of the new jobs. The job fair will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 16 at 1601 S. Burdick Street, the Michigan Works! Service Center. At the event, applicants will be required to complete a registration form and attend an American Axle orientation session.

Applicants will then be asked to register for an assessment appointment. The assessments will take place at the Three Rivers Michigan WORKS! Service Center, 16587 Enterprise Drive.

Following the assessment, applicants will be required to complete an online American Axle application. Eligible applicants will be referred to a staffing agency for interviewing, drug screening, and background checks.

Applicants can also apply and schedule an assessment online from any computer with Internet access.

Qualified applicants are at least 18 years old, must have a high school diploma or a G.E.D., must have reliable transportation, and must be willing work any shift. Shifts at American Axle are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
