Golf course grand opening, Benton Harbor revatilization to be featured by CBS

The 30 minutes before the CBS 2011 Masters Golf Tournament coverage April 9 will be all about the grand opening of the Golf Club at Harbor Shores.

Five televisions at South Shore Health & Racquet Club, three at Lake Michigan Hills Golf Club and individual sets all over town will be tuned into the coverage.

Owners of televisions in bars, restaurants and other public places are hosting "Party with The Masters" events. The Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce is promoting the parties and asking those that are having them to sign up at chamber's website so people can find out where they can go to see the event with others from the community.

The coverage will be a recap of the Champions for Change Tournament.  Course designer Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Johnny Miller -- the players who participated in the scramble that raised $1 million for area young people -- will be featured. So will Whirlpool Corp., a partner in Harbor Shores.

The transformation under way in Benton Harbor spurred by the development of Harbor Shores, with the 18 hole public Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at its center, also is to be covered. The 530-acre, master-planned community of nearly 800 homes will include a marina village and riverwalk, town center with restaurants and shops, miles of recreational trails and rivers, and acres of parks and green space and more.

Cornerstone Alliance's Wendy Dant Chesser says she is hopeful the CBS special will highlight "the culmination of years of coordinated effort by nearly every non-profit in the community,  support from many area businesses and tireless hours of citizen volunteers who, each day, work to make ours a better place."
