'A Dot Com Affair' filming in Benton Harbor

Benton Harbor will be the setting and the film site for the movie "A Dot Com Affair."

The film tells the story of Bob and his wife Jane as they come into a fortune suddenly, only to lose it just as quickly.

The filmmakers will receive an incentive of nearly $500,000 from the Michigan Film Office. The company has said it expects to spend nearly $1.2 million in Michigan.

The project expects to hire 91 Michigan workers with a full time equivalent of nine jobs.

The incentive was approved before new rules went into effect Oct. 1.

To qualify for the incentive the state had to determine the production is financially viable, that it will use existing studios, post-production facilities, film labs, and similar infrastructure. The producers also have to show the film will create jobs for Michigan residents and that it will show Michigan in a positive light and promote the state as a tourist destination. The size of the amount of money the production intends to spend in Michigan also is taken into account.

Since the incentives took effect in April 2008, the Film Office and the Michigan Department of Treasury have approved nearly $386 million in film incentives for 226 projects. Across the state 157 projects have wrapped and filmmakers have agreed to spend more than $$980 million.

"This project will feature the incredible scenery and locations in southwest Michigan, while investing in our Michigan workforce and the local economy," says Carrie Jones, director of the Michigan Film Office.
