Being green is becoming a standard of good business strategy in Michigan and Schupan & Sons is one company that has demonstrated a sharp focus on showing leadership in green initiatives.
Schupan Recycling has been recognized as one of the
101 Best and Brightest Sustainable Companies, a new awards program that honors programs from all industries that are focused on being more sustainable, improving the lives of their employees and showing a commitment to preserving the environment locally and globally.
Companies were evaluated and scored by an independent research firm that looked at education, communication, strategic planning, innovation and problem solving, building and grounds and community leadership. Workforce and financial performance also were part of the evaluation.
Schupan & Sons began as an aluminum recycling business in 1968. It has continued to grow each of its three divisions -- Aluminum and Plastic Sales, Industrial Recycling and Beverage Container Recycling despite a lackluster economy and now has more than 5,000 customers.
The company will be recognized April 18 at a symposium and awards celebration at Davenport University in Grand Rapids. It will be among 101 companies from across the state chosen for doing work that inspires and is producing green technology to better the industry and environment.
