When the ribbon was officially cut at Hair Cuttery's opening ceremony, today ( June 7), Benton Harbor had a new, full-service walk-in salon, along with five new jobs -- salon leader and stylist Lisa Hill and a staff of four more stylists.
"We're really excited about this because there are not many walk-in salons around," Hill says. "We are very convenient for customers who have an hour or so to get their hair done."
The Ratner Family owns and operates
Hair Cuttery -- one of 900 salons they own across the U.S. and their first Michigan location. The family selected Benton Harbor as a centrally located city that will draw customers from surrounding residential and commercial neighbors.
Hill hopes to pull clients from Benton Harbor, Stevensville and St. Joseph, among other areas.
"Our prices are affordable and we offer a lot of services that many full-service salons do not," she says.
Hill and her crew have bundled services in several packages to save clients money. They include the Style Express for $29 -- a shampoo, Redken Chemistry deep conditioning treatment, cut and blow dry style. The City Lights package for $102 offers everything that Style Express includes, plus a full head of highlighting.
Hair Cuttery does not cater only to women. For $39, a man can get the Color Camo treatment to cover graying hair, along with the basics included in the rest of Hair Cutters' collection of services.
Hair Cuttery will be able to add four more jobs to the Benton Harbor economy if business thrives.
"We have nine stations here and the busier we get, the more staff we will need," Hill says. "We have room for four more stylists."
