The first Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf in the Midwest is coming to the Golf Club at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor.
The 1,800-square-foot academy is part of a larger plan for 7,500-square-foot clubhouse that is expected to be constructed by Spring 2012.
Jack Nicklaus Academies are known for tailoring the education process to each player, instead of teaching specific swings like the one Nicklaus used. Those who enroll are evaluated to find out their individual learning styles and many other aspects of how they play the game. The program also includes 20 stretches and range of motion assessments.
The academies train a large number of tournament players, but they also offer training to the public that the pros expect. The philosophy is to offer training that makes ordinary golfers better.
Information on the training academy, the clubhouse, a 5,600-square-foot caddy and storage facility and the 2,500-square-foot First Tee Academy at Harbor Shores will be detailed at a press conference Friday, June 24.
Also at the event the media will get a look at the first completed houses of the Fairview Homes residential portion of the development. Two homes have been finished, three are under construction and 29 will be done when the subdivision is completed.
The first beach and golf community on Lake Michigan,
Harbor Shores is a 530-acre master-planned development that will feature 800 homes, including cottages, signature homes, town homes and condominiums. At its center is the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Current real estate opportunities include golf and riverfront home sites, riverfront cottages, golf view homes and condominiums.
