Amy Zane's new location features funky, functional art

With a new location comes lots more art for the Amy Zane Store & Studio.
Amy Zane moved recently from the retail space where most recently she has been for nearly a year and the spot from where she ran Fervor Art to Wear in the past.
At her previous location she featured her work and that of six other artists, but in the larger space on the Kalamazoo Mall she now works with 40 different artists and more are being added regularly.
Zane calls the art: "Fun, Funky and Functional." Already shoppers are finding the fun art with functionality in Zane's new location and a grand opening is set for Friday, Oct. 4. Zane's jewelry will be specially priced for the grand opening. Treats are planned all day, with wine and more snacks offered in the evening for Art Hop shoppers.
Art in the store is presented in a cutting edge fashion--exposed bricks, rough hewn wood, all new shelving and other decorative touches create a "barn chic" environment where the arts "pops," Zane says. She also installed LED lighting to provide an element of environmental friendliness to the store.
The new space is 1,600 square feet with tall ceilings that make it feel even larger. With nearly 500 more square feet to work with than the previous location the store features artwork of many styles. Fine art pottery, children's clothes and Christmas ornaments are just a few of the things that can be found at
Amy Zane Store & Studio
.
Customers have fallen in love with bird feeder and and bird houses that are replicas of all kinds of buildings--cabins, churches, farm houses, even an equestrian stable. With corrugated metal roofs, the art pieces have fine details like one that features a stone chimney and astroturf grass outside. Another has a metal moose on the chimney. They in range in price from $34 to $97 for the large equestrian stable.
Art pieces that begin as a photo, are manipulated in Photoshop, then have paint or pastel added on top are one-of-a-kind. They sell at $100 to $120 for an 11-by-17 and are just one of the "wildly affordable" types of art found in the new store.
What else is flying out the door? Michigan themed artwork, especially cookie cutters shaped like The Mitten.
Of course, it would not be an Amy Zane store without jewelry by Amy Zane. She crafts pieces in the studio on site, many featuring the unique, rare gem stones that she has become known for. Zane's earrings start at $28, her necklaces at $30. Many pieces in the store are under $60, although some are $200 and up for those seeking the most exquisite pieces.
"Being located on the downtown mall gives us greater room for showcasing our product, and it’s now easier for customers to get to us," Zane says.
Amy Zane Store & Studio is located at 132 S. Kalamazoo Mall (across from the Union), and open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday.
