Saugatuck Brewing Co. to expand so it can brew more beer

Saugatuck Brewing Co. is growing and by this time 2014 it plans to have a 40-barrel brewing system in place.

It also will expand its bottling, labeling and packaging equipment. Additional offices and an expanded cooler space also are in the works for the 25,000-square-foot facility at, 2948 Blue Star Highway.

Saugatuck Brewing Co. officials say the expansion will begin in October of this year and replace its current 10-barrel system.

The expansion will be made possible by using a portion of the existing banquet hall, the Singapore Room.

Overflow restaurant seating and mid-size private groups will be use the remaining portion of the banquet hall.

Saugatuck Brewing Co. is a microbrewery that features 15 unique beer styles, all brewed in-house. Wine and hard cider also are served daily in the pub.

Saugatuck Brewing Co. also distributes 11 styles in 6 and 4-packs, plus kegs throughout Michigan and metro Chicago.

The brewery features one of the only active brew-on-premise facilities in Michigan, utilizing five copper kettles and an array of natural ingredients and recipes, allowing the public to become "Brewmaster for a Day."

Saugatuck Brewing Co. got its start in 2005 with a 3.5 barrel system brewing in a leased building across the street from the current location. Three years later it expanded to the current facility. Part of that move was the opening of the Lucky Stone Pub and a simple kitchen for pub sandwiches.
