Stroll, stop and take a taste of chili, stroll on.
There were 35 opportunities to find a favorite at the annual Chili Cook-off in downtown Kalamazoo on Jan. 19. Chili Passport in hand, chili aficionados lined the mall as they traveled from spot to spot and voted on the ones they liked best. An estimated 3,000 were there tasting the chili. The cook-off is sponsored by participating stores where the tasting took place.
There also were hands-on activities and cookie decorating for youngsters at Mall Plaza. In the spirit of charity, there also was a "mitten challenge." Cook-off attendees were encouraged to bring a new pair of children's mittens, collected on the Kalamazoo Mall.
Congratulations to the winners: People's Choice and Retail category winner Nature Connection, Retail winners--Tempo Vino Winery, Baird; and Restaurant category winners: Mangia, Mangia, Zazios and The Union Cabaret and Grille.
