Learning opportunities for business startup owners

Two opportunities for entrepreneurs to learn different aspects of what it takes to do business will be coming up in April.

A Technology Toolkit Series: Utilizing Today’s Trends in Your Business seminar takes place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m April 10 at Western Michigan University’s Southwest Campus located at 2785 E. Napier Avenue in Benton Harbor.

This class is geared toward entrepreneurs and small business owners with limited or no technology experience who would like to understand what’s available and how to put technology to work for them and their business.

Joe Allen, owner of Scooter Joe’s in St. Joseph will facilitate the class. The session offers information in simple terms on the array of new hardware and software allows business owners to do research to make their business more competitive and productive, at a low cost.

How to track and keep in touch with  customers, how to be mobile -- including credit card processing, how to automate invoicing, how to use the web and social media to promote the business are some of the topics to be covered.

The deadline to register for the Technology Toolkit Series class is April 6.

Entrepreneurs considering purchasing a franchise are encouraged to attend a workshop on how to investigate and buy one. The session takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m Thursday, April 17 at The Livery, 190 5th Street, Benton Harbor.

The seminar will include a presentation by Brigitte Bester of FranNet and Brian Picarazzi of Michigan SBA. Some of the Topics to be covered include:  What are the Pros and Cons? What costs are associated with owning and operating a franchise? How do I select and investigate a franchise? What traits are important to be a successful franchisee? Financing and loan options available to business owners also will be discussed.
