Top employers from the Kalamazoo area will be offering their best advice to young job seekers in an upcoming event.
Six Southwest Michigan community colleges and Western Michigan University are working together to present a career success seminar that lets students in on the skills employers are most seeking in their new hires.
Representatives from Bronson Hospital, Landscape Forms, PNC Bank, Western Michigan University and Weber Specialties will be on hand to talk about their expectations. They also will have advice on what job candidates can do to be competitive in their respective workplaces.
The event is expected to draw about 100 college students, including 60 from KVCC. The seminar runs from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, in the new student services wing at KVCC's Texas Township Campus.
Students will take a general skills assessment test during the seminar.
As part of the three-hour event, participants also will rotate through skill-building sessions where they will learn about communication, team work, how to make a good impression and what it means to demonstrate a strong work ethic. Technical and analytic skills also will be discussed.
Laura Cosby, Director of KVCC's Student Success Center, says the event is an opportunity fpr students to put the finishing touches on their interviewing and presentation skills to polish and make themselves as a whole.
