Speaker series leads off with talk on startup culture

"The Culture of a $1 Billion Startup" will be the topic when Keith C. Valentine leads off the upcoming Distinguished Speaker Series sponsored by Western Michigan University's Haworth College of Business.

Valentine is president and chief operating officer of NuVasive Inc., a leading manufacturer of surgical implants for minimally disruptive spinal surgery.

NuVasive's technology allows spinal surgery patients to leave the hospital after one or two days. Most patients have reduced blood loss during surgery and experience a full recovery within six to eight weeks.

Valentine has more than 15 years of experience in the orthopedic industry. He started his career in orthopedics with Stryker Corp. in 1990 and subsequently worked with medical device company ORATEC Interventions Inc. and Medtronic Sofamor Danek. At NuVasive Prior he was named president and COO in 2007. Between January 2002 and December 2004 he was executive vice president and has served as senior vice president of marketing and development.

Valentine earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management in 1990 from WMU, where he also studied biomedical sciences.

To register for Keith Valentine's talk or obtain more information, contact WMU's Cyntia Reeves or call her at 269-387-5050.
