Volunteers assist those who need a little extra help

More than a hundred people, including many children, some of them homeless and others simply having financial difficulties recently got some hope in Battle Creek.

Members of the H.O.P.E. Team, an outreach program of the Haven of Rest Ministries, offered a free lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers, a sack meal to take with them, and some extra items for their personal use, including hygiene items, bottled water and clothing to those in need.

Excerpt:

A person may not look as though he or she needs assistance, but what matters is that the person has expressed the desire for help. "We don't turn anyone away, because we don't know who's who," Zeine said. "The person may not be working this month. We don't judge like that -- and I don't want to even start judging like that."

H.O.P.E. organized people who want to lend a hand to homeless people who don't necessarily come to the Haven of Rest for assistance, and help others who may have a home but lack other essential items.
