B.C. Enquirer: Funds will help academy continue work

The state budget may hold some good news for Battle Creek’s Michigan Youth Challenge Academy, reports the Battle Creek Enquirer.  A state Senate budget committee last week approved an amendment setting aside $1.5 million for the program for at-risk teens operated by the National Guard at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. State cutbacks in recent years threatened to close the academy, but it has remained open at a reduced capacity. Lawmakers said the budget plan would restore full funding to the program.
