It was last year when we were introduced to DB Delivery Solutions, a China Township-based startup that had developed a product to combat package theft.
It’s a common problem of this day and age, one made all the more relevant as the COVID-19 pandemic saw more and more people ordering things online. Porch pirates, as they’re called, are an opportunistic bunch, spotting deliveries left on people’s porches and swiping them before the intended recipient can collect their packages.
Founded by Missie Nordrum and Mike Janas,
DB Delivery Solutions created the Receptor, a secure box for receiving packages that the company installs into the sides of homes, garages, and businesses.
“We don’t just get mail anymore, and our product, the Receptor, is the answer to everyone’s concerns about how to safely and securely get all of their deliveries, which include packages, groceries and prepared foods,” Janas says. “We can install the Receptor in any existing home or business, and we can install the Receptor in any new construction project.”

Now DB Delivery Solutions is being recognized for their work. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is acknowledging the company with a 2021 SmartZone Best Small Business award. They’ll be honored at the 17th annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business gala on Tuesday, July 20.
Each SmartZone across the state — there are more than 20 of them — selects a small business to honor with the award. These are businesses that have demonstrated growth through technology commercialization and successful innovation. The SmartZones themselves aim to foster and nurture technology-based businesses and their growth.
DB Delivery Solutions is part of the Port Huron SmartZone. They also participate
in the Underground Business Incubator program from the Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County.
“Small businesses create significant economic impact in communities all across Michigan,” says Josh Hundt, Chief Business Development Officer and Executive Vice President at the MEDC. “We are excited to acknowledge and celebrate more than 80 small businesses this year who have been selected by their peers, communities, and small business support organizations and demonstrate the resiliency and impact of Michigan small businesses.”
