Local entrepreneur helps others pursue a healthier lifestyle

For many of us, change can be difficult but it could be the beginning of a new adventure you never imagined possible.

Personal trainer and owner of Godlike Fitness, Dwayne Kidd decided to launch his business in 2020 right when the pandemic hit. Previously, the Port Huron resident enjoyed eating McDonald’s and all the other unhealthy items that we love to indulge in from time to time before deciding to make a change.

“I just got tired of being out of shape honestly, breathing heavily from walking up the stairs, and not being able to be as active as I wanted to be with my kids,” says Kidd.

Motivated to change his health and feelings about his appearance, he started watching YouTube videos with different trainers, nutritionists, and other professionals.

“At one point I was 261 pounds,” Kidd says. “After the diets and YouTube videos, I took classes to be certified in sports nutrition, personal training, and holistic nutrition. I got my weight down to 170 and was feeling a lot better physically.”

He also began to take the necessary steps to not only improve himself, but to help others seeking a healthier lifestyle.

“Ultimately my goal is to do my part and spread love and positivity to as many people as possible,” Kidd says. “To get them to love themselves inside and out.”

Godlike Fitness offers a variety of services and options for beginners and veterans in the fitness world. Kidd says the first session is free for clients to give them the experience and find out if the training style is the right fit for them.

“We offer our clients advice on nutrition and what works best for their specific goals, meal planning, and personal training of course, but I would like to expand into other areas of health and fitness in the future,” Kidd says.

Big dreams and the ability to adapt to change will take you places you never expected.

“I would love to have my own gym franchise one day, as well as working with celebrities and other high-profile clients,” Kidd says.

Since starting his business, Kidd has been appearing at numerous events around the community promoting his brand and healthy lifestyle. He will be participating in a pop-up shop at Port Huron Nutrition on Sunday, Sept. 4, and will be offering a free group workout on Sunday, Sept. 11.
