Downtown Port Huron business owner Christina Ward has been able to combine her two loves to find her success story. Christina owns and operates Spa 223 & Boutique. She has the best of both worlds because was able to combine her love of massages, and facials with her goal to run a business. She's been working hard for years to create the perfect setting for spa-goers. It all started when she would travel with her husband for work. While he was in meetings, she'd visit spas and realized that Port Huron didn't have anything like that. After some discussion, and research by her husband, the couple decided they would open a spa in downtown. Nearly 10 years later, Christina is happy with the business they've built. The spa has grown from a 10-employee, four-day-a-week operation to having 18 staff members, and being open every day. Her key to success is making sure what is being done in the spa is being done very well. "We won't do anything that we don't do well," she says. She also makes sure to invest in her staff and training. Everything works together so everyone who comes into the spa feels welcomed and relaxed. Not everything they've tried has worked, but the team is dedicated to providing the best service. Christina loves having her business in downtown Port Huron and is excited about all the growth and change happening right now. I love the lights hanging in downtown, I think it's magical everytime I drive through," she says. And she thinks all the restaurants are big catalysts for downtown. That's part of why she made certain to support local businesses this holiday season. She gave her employees gift cards to a handful of downtown businesses, so they could enjoy a night out at a favorite place, or maybe try something new. As she reaches the 10-year anniversary of the spa, Christina looks forward to being more involved in the community. "I've never said no to a donation request," she says. She wants to give more an make an even bigger difference. There are some many worthy causes here. #downtownPortHuron #PeopleofPortHuron #spa #serenity #thekeelph
