As Executive Director of the Marine City Chamber of Commerce Erika DeLange is an unabashed cheerleader for the town that sits along the St. Clair River, but it's an easy job, she says because the community is a happy one and it is a fun place to be. "I love the people, the community and how everyone is so cooperative, supporting and looking out for everybody," she says. From her new Water Street office, she can catch an amazing view of the river, and people watch. Erika took the helm at the chamber nearly three years ago, and says watching the city grow has been exciting. "I like to say I got here at the crest," she says. There were already several established businesses like the Riverbank and Snug theaters, as well as Sweet Tooth Candy Shop, but watching it grow has been thrilling, especially the businesses that had to rebuild after a devastating fire, like Vera Grace and Etta Mae's. "It was getting busy as I was coming on board, it's been really exciting and a lot of fun to watch new boutiques and stores open, it's wonderful," she says. She's been amazed to see Marine City grow into a destination. The town has been seeing a lot of visitors from Macomb and Oakland counties who stay not just for a day, but for a weekend, Of course, the city also sees many visitors from Canada, too. When someone new comes into town, Erika encourages them to check out the theaters, and the stores, especially the nine antique shops across the city. "We have something for everyone, it's such a walkable city, its really nice." When she isn't busy touting and supporting Marine City, she's taking her son to his travel hockey games, and helping her daughter prepare for life after high school. She loves spending time with her family, especially boating. Erika is excited for the Lighted Santa Parade at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 and Merrytime Christmas on Dec. 1. Both events are great showcases for the city. "It's a great feel, everyone is so happy and it's a fun place to be. It's wonderful." #MarineCity #PeopleofPortHuron #ChamberofCommerce
