Port Huron coffee company undergoes redevelopment, reopening with new products and storefront

After several iterations spanning more than a decade, a familiar business has found a permanent home in Port Huron.

Located at 1340 Water St., Sub Sliders originally opened in February as Whiskey Coffee Company before undergoing redevelopment and closing temporarily while licensing and formal approvals were pending. Owner and Port Huron resident Dale Moses Jr. reopened the establishment this month, blending the businesses together.

Dale Moses, owner of Sub Sliders and Whiskey Coffee Company, prepares an order of sliders.“It goes deeper than just the product, I like the interactions that I have with people,” Moses says. “I get up front, we pour a cup of coffee, I'm talking to customers, and we make them some good food. We’re having a good time, you know?”

Sub Sliders has a limited menu available featuring both familiar as well as new products. In addition to coffee and sliders, hand-dipped ice cream, shakes, and smoothies are among the establishment’s newest offerings.

Here to stay is the coffee shop’s signature coffee, Black Suit Blend, which Moses says is comprised of a combination of coffee beans sourced mostly from South America. The standout ingredient, from which the coffee creation is named for, soaks the coffee beans before they undergo the roasting process.

“It's a dry evaporation process so there's no alcohol left in it afterwards,” Moses says. “I found that this made my coffee exceptionally smooth to the palate and you don't get that bitter finish that a lot of coffees get.”

After initially going into business in 2009, Moses has rebranded several times throughout the years with various locations and names including Dale’s Hillbilly Coffee, Constant Change Market LLC, and most recently Whiskey Coffee Company and Sub Sliders.

“I’m glad he came back and is doing it,” says long-time customer, Paul Fetterly. “I’ve tried everywhere, but I like the coffee here.”

Sub Sliders is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1-7 p.m. For more information about current offerings, visit facebook.com/SubSliders.
