How these two local businesses have formed a mutually beneficial partnership in downtown Marine City

The Inn on Water Street is ready to reopen their kitchen and they’ve found some helpful neighbors to get the job done. Fellow downtown Marine City business Bistro 428 / Neiman’s Catering is slated to take over the kitchen at The Inn, providing a lunch and dinner menu as well as catering the hotel’s events.

A soft opening is tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 1.

“We closed our restaurant on March 16th, 2020, with the start of Covid and have been looking to re-open,” says Renee Alexandrea, manager of The Inn. “When Bistro 428 / Neiman’s Catering started catering events here, we knew they would be the perfect fit.”

Fans of the original Bistro 428 need not fret about the big news happening over at The Inn. Bistro 428 will remain open in their current location, too, offering grab-and-go lunches for those on the move.

“Grab-and-go lunches are great for people working in town or just heading to the beach for the day,” says Nancy Neiman, co-owner of the bistro and catering business.

Steve and Nancy Neiman opened Bistro 428 / Neiman’s Catering — which is not affiliated with Neiman’s Family Market in St. Clair — just over two years ago. Though only having been open for a short time, the idea of expanding the business was already brewing.

And then The Inn came calling.

“We grew out of our Broadway location so quickly and have been looking to expand for some time,” Steve says. “We really love the community and when the offer from the Inn came up — it was a beautiful view, great people, room for parking, and indoor and outdoor seating — it was a no-brainer for us.”

“The community has always been so supportive, they are like family to us and we want to treat them like that,” Nancy says.

As for what fans of the Bistro 428 experience can expect from their new location at The Inn on Water Street?

“The dinner menu (at The Inn) will offer specialty dishes — Italian and Polish plates, international dishes and steakhouse dinners,” Nancy says. “We wanted to offer something for everyone to enjoy.”

Bistro 428 / Nieman’s Catering has already started booking future events at The Inn, accommodating baby showers, wedding showers, baptism confirmations, birthday parties, and other celebratory events. As for the restaurant itself, a soft opening is planned for Friday, April 1, although the Neimans recommend checking out their Facebook page for future updates.

And for those looking for work, the Neimans are looking to hire hostesses, servers, and kitchen staff — and very soon, too. They recommend contacting them through their Facebook page for further inquiries.

The Inn on Water Street is located at 560 S. Water St. and Bistro 428 / Neiman’s Catering is located at 428 Broadway St., both of them in downtown Marine City.
