Mikulich General Store draws customers in Traunik

There has been a question being asked by a few of our foodie friends lately that has our interest piqued.

"Have you had the barbecue in Traunik?" is the basic question.

And, honestly, we haven't. Traunik isn't exactly on the road to anywhere. To end up there, you usually have to be meaning to go there, or through there. But it seems that the reviews coming in from Mikulich General Store (which is a Michigan historical site) are giving folks a reason to travel there. The recommendation we've been hearing is to try the barbecue plates, which come heaped with your choice of meat, two sides and some thick-cut Texas toast. Your meat choices are beef brisket (which has been getting rave reviews), pulled pork, sausage, turkey, chicken breast, ham and "pig wing" ribs.

Sides include such yummy things as cowboy-style pinto beans, corn off the cob, Spanish rice, mac and cheese, Italian green beans, coleslaw, potato salad, three bean salad and macaroni salad.

If BBQ isn't your thing, then you can order homemade pizzas, hickory-smoked baked potatoes, hot dogs, hoagies, crab salad, ham salad and chicken salad sandwiches and even a nice selection of Mexican-style food like nachos, burritos and even pozole.

So, if you never had a reason to visit Traunik before, you do now.
