Indian Trails extends bus service from western U.P.

For fans of traveling by bus, getting west from the U.P. is getting a little easier with the addition of new service runs from Indian Trails.

Indian Trails announced it will start new daily scheduled runs between Duluth and various stops across northern Wisconsin, all the way over to Ironwood, which was the previous western U.P. endpoint.

Among the new stops are Hurley, Ashland, Iron River, Brule and Superior, all in Wisconsin. (No, not the U.P.'s Iron River, but it's still a nice town.)

The new bus service started July 1, and restores some former daily service points that had been dropped in recent years.

"We are excited to bring daily service back to Northern Tier residents, and make these cities more accessible to the areas we already serve," says Gordon Mackay, president of Indian Trails. "This new schedule will provide convenient connections to the rest of the national intercity bus network on the newest deluxe motor coaches available in the industry."

The amenities Indian Trails passengers can expect to find include reclining seats, individual lighting and climate controls, and free wireless Internet service, so you can even catch up on email or work while you're on the bus. (In case you thought this was like Greyhound… It's not.)

Mackay also notes the use of Indian Trails buses, or motor coaches, as the company calls them, can remove up to 55 cars from the road for each full coach, saving emissions and fuel.

Indian Trails is a 101-year-old company that serves 113 communities in the Upper Midwest, on 30 different scheduled routes, as well as charter services.
