Robust voting being reported for International Bridge's 50th anniversary lighting

Turns out, there are some pretty strong opinions on the lighting for the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge's 50th anniversary next year.

Public online voting has raked in more than 1,400 votes on different lighting designs so far, with votes coming in from 141 different cities around the world, says Phil Becker, general manager for the International Bridge Association, which is running the voting on its website.

"The Web site shows real-time voting tabulations," says Becker. "The local response has been great with the vast majority of votes coming from the twin Saults. We encourage people to take advantage of this unique opportunity in the remaining two weeks of the voting period."

Voting began Oct. 3 and will end Oct. 31, with the most popular lighting idea to be put up in early 2012, all done in time for the bridge's June anniversary celebration.

All three lighting concepts include the Canadian and U.S. national flag colors or red and white on the Canadian side and red, white and blue on the U.S. side.
