There's no doubt that plenty of Yooper men view themselves as a manly-men--you know, the macho kind that don't think macho is a good descriptor.
But one thing, no matter how manly you may think you are, that is most important is your health. That's why Portage Health, for the third year, has put together a lineup of information targeted to the men of the Copper Country and the Upper Peninsula as a whole.
The hospital will host its Third Annual Men's Health Tune-Up on Oct. 22.
"This event is designed to keep healthy living in the minds of men," says Angela Luskin, community health coordinator. "We have great speakers, free health screenings and a variety of vendors that will make this event very worthwhile."
This all comes at a cost of just $22. Luskin notes the costs of the screenings alone are worth more than the cost of admission.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Jason Carter, chair Michigan Tech’s Department Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology. He’ll discuss exercising in a four-season community, how age affects being active and keys to stay motivated.
Pam Dove, MS, RD, from Baraga County Memorial Hospital, will also speak on how to control your diet.
The screenings include hearing, cholesterol panel, blood sugar, blood pressure, body density and, new this year, bone composition.
Breakfast, lunch and several raffles will also be included.
