Director of 'documentary' filmed partially in Ishpeming interviewed by Freep

What's up with movies having the Upper Peninsula in them lately? While we're not complaining, it actually feels difficult to keep up with this new fad in the business.

The newest addition to that list is Catfish, a "documentary" that features a Ishpeming prominently. The Detroit Free Press recently interviewed the director.

Excerpt: The film is about the surprising odyssey that begins when New York photographer Yaniv (Nev) Schulman develops an online friendship with an 8-year-old artist named Abby from Ishpeming -- who's painted a picture of one of his photos -- and her family.

Over the course of several months, Nev gets to know more about Abby; her mom, Angela; and her 19-year-old half-sister, Megan. The twenty-something Nev falls for Megan and spends a lot of time communicating with her through the Web and by phone.
