Another golf course in the U.P. gets a positive review

It's sometimes hard to believe how popular golfing is in the Upper Peninsula, considering there are only about two months of non-winter (well, it feels that way sometimes!). Not only is the sport popular up here, but the courses are pretty darn good, too, earning national recognition and awards, as noted in this recent article by Fairways and Greens Magazine about Timber Stone Golf Course.

Excerpt: They'll remember a great golf course, too, one of three U.P. award-winners (along with Sweetgrass and Greywalls) packaged in a popular and affordable stay-and-play deal that has golfers from Green Bay to Milwaukee to Chicago and farther-flung Midwest towns singing its praises and filling tee shots like never before.

Laid out by Michigan-bred architect Jerry Matthews and opened in 1996 the lower reaches of Pine Mountain Resort's ski hills, Timber Stone is, to its core, an alpine course. To a West Coast-based visitor, it'll conjure memories of the best Sierra tracks in Reno-Tahoe or perhaps a favorite course in Oregon, Washington or British Columbia.
