Grand Marais wins Reader's Digest prize

When President Barack Obama arrives in Marquette Thursday, he'll be only the second sitting president to visit. The first was former President George W. Bush in 2004. It's big news for the U.P., but the reason he's visiting has impact for the whole country, as he will talk about making the local, global, through high-speed Internet access.

Excerpt: On Thursday, February 10, President Obama will travel to Marquette, Michigan, where local businesses have been able to grow as a result of broadband access, with particular benefit in exporting goods to new markets around the world.

In his State of the Union Address, the President called for a National Wireless Initiative to help businesses extend the next generation of wireless coverage to 98 percent of the population.
