I-500 ready to ‘turn it up a notch’

Want to know a couple of things that Yoopers seem to really love? Well, beyond the pasty and a nice sauna, they love snowmobiles and racing. That's where Sault Ste. Marie's I-500 fills a need for so many.

Excerpt: With Eastern Upper Peninsula residents experiencing the first big arctic blast preparation are already underway for the 43rd running of the International 500 Snowmobile Race.

The traditional date for the biggest race in snowmobiling--the first Saturday in February--remains intact with the green flag dropping on Feb. 5 for "The Grandaddy of them all."

I-500 Spokesman Ric Federau indicated event organizers are ready to "turn it up a notch" for the upcoming race season and was trumpeting a new event. The Lakes & Trails Powersports Vintage Dash, according to the organizations website, will run on Thursday, Feb. 3 featuring older sleds powered by 340 and 440 engines.
