Northern businesses welcome snow, snowmobilers

Some parts of the country may complain about getting six inches of snow, but here in the U.P., that's a good winter day's work by Mother Nature. The great snowfall this year has translated into booming business for some.

Excerpt: "This is what I've been waiting for," said Steve Whitehead, who lives near Holly, stopping his big Polaris sled for a breather on a trail between Gaylord and Indian River. "Snow, snow, snow. The last two trips we made north to ride weren't very good, because the snow was pretty thin, and a lot of traffic had really beat it up.

Snow is a valuable commodity in northern Michigan from December through March. It brings the snowmobilers and skiers to the motels, restaurants and gas stations that count on the business to make it through the winter.
