United Way of Bay County taking applications for leadership position

Attention all go-getters and relationship-builders, people that have an understanding of the ALICE population – an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed – the United Way of Bay County is looking for you.

The Bay County chapter of the renowned nonprofit organization is searching for its next CEO and executive director. The application window for the position will be open until Oct. 14. The organization hopes to make a decision on its new leader by Dec. 1, with the new executive taking over at the beginning of 2021.

Current CEO and Executive Director Marybeth Laisure, having held the position since August 2014, plans to retire at the end of the year.

Shawna Walraven, board president of the organization and also Bay County treasurer, credits Laisure with guiding United Way of Bay County through difficult philanthropic times and regional mergers and changes. Laisure expanded the United Way’s winter wear program with Warm Soles, which provides children with warm boots for the winter.

Now, the United Way searches for someone to lead them into the next decade.

"It’s really an opportunity for someone to make an impact in our community. You’re not going to get rich doing this. It’s for someone that wants to make a difference," Walraven says.

According to the United Way website, the salaried position pays somewhere in the $55,000 to $65,000 range, depending on experience.

The job listing states that the CEO’s expected duties include "administering, coordinating and directing the organization’s financial and human resources to achieve business plan objectives established by the Board of Directors."

Walraven recommends applicants use the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website to apply for the position.

"We have an executive committee involved in the search. We also have the community involved in the interview process. We want to make sure the CEO can work with the community and our community partners," Walraven says.

"We have different stakeholders involved in the process so we can get the best picture of our new CEO."

Visit the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website for more information about the position.
