Midland Soccer Club’s $10M indoor turf facility to boost youth sports, regional growth

In a bold move signaling what’s next for youth sports, community development, and regional vitality, the Midland Soccer Club (MSC) is embarking on a $10 million capital campaign to construct a state-of-the-art, 150,000-square-foot indoor turf facility on its existing campus just east of the Midland Mall.

Coming shortly after the launch of MSC’s new pre-professional women’s team, Fusion Women, (WPSL Semi-Pro), the project reflects the region’s rising energy around inclusive athletics, talent retention, and smart urban infrastructure.

Slated to break ground in Spring 2026, the indoor complex will offer a weatherproof, multi-use venue for soccer, football, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and more, providing new opportunities for thousands of athletes across the Great Lakes Bay Region to train and compete year-round.

“We’re not just building walls and turf,” says Pete Corle, MSC Board Member and Campaign Chair. “We’re creating a hub for community pride, physical and mental well-being, and sustained local economic impact.”

A Regional First with Statewide Implications

This facility will be the first of its kind in the region and one of the largest in the state, combining elite athletic infrastructure with broad community access. MSC anticipates reaching self-sufficiency through a mix of private donations, sponsorships, tournament revenue, and rental income.

Already, MSC hosts two major tournaments that generate over $3 million annually for the local economy. According to projections from the Midland Convention & Visitors Bureau, the new facility could bring an additional $2.5 million per year in tourism-related impact from hotel bookings and dining to entertainment and transportation.

But the impact isn’t just economic. It’s cultural.

“This venue means fewer hours on the road for parents and more time in our own community,” Corle explains. “Instead of spending money elsewhere, families will invest in Midland—and visiting teams will do the same.”

A Facility for Everyone, in Every Season

Designed with inclusivity in mind, the indoor turf complex will serve youth ages 3–19, including children with physical and cognitive challenges through MSC’s TOPSoccer program and a partnership with the Midland County ESA. It will also be accessible to schools, marching bands, and adult rec leagues, offering a flexible space for a wide range of uses.

Beyond athletic performance, the facility aligns with broader urban development goals:
  • Attracting and retaining young families and professionals
  • Promoting mental and physical health
  • Enhancing the region’s reputation as a sports tourism destination
  • Supporting equitable access to athletic development and life skills

“This is an infrastructure project that supports everything from early childhood development to citywide vitality,” Corle says. “And it’s being driven by local leadership, with long-term sustainability at its core.”

About the Project

The new facility will expand MSC’s already impressive footprint. With over 30 fields across 54 acres, MSC is one of Michigan’s largest and most respected soccer clubs. The new indoor complex will ensure that weather is never a barrier to training or competition, making Midland a year-round destination for elite and community-level sports.

Currently at 60 percent of its fundraising goal, MSC invites community members, foundations, and businesses to be part of the project’s next phase. To learn more or get involved in the capital campaign, visit MSC Indoor Athletic Facility
